Fish-Catching Tips For Bull Shoals Lake
- Use light line. Bull Shoals is a crystal clear, deep lake with very few obstacles to hang up a fish on a line. The water is greenish in color so a greenish line can work better than a bluish line.
- Choose "baby" versions of your favorite plugs. The clear water of Bull Shoals Lake tends to magnify lures and baits as well as lines. Larger lures do not work as well as the smaller ones.
- Fish for what's biting. Listen and observe, network with fellow fishing folks AND talk to the people at the marinas. Notice what lures are still on their rods when happy fishermen come in to the dock. For the best possible fishing help, go out with a licensed professional guide for a day or two until you get the hang of it.
- BLACK BASS - The lunker season starts with the shad kill, use jig and pig or twin spins, progress to stick baits, surface lures, spinners, plastic worms, live crawfish, to jig and frog, crank baits, etc. later in the year.
- CRAPPIE - Starts with the spawn about mid-April. The best bait would be small jigs, road runners, plastic grub, minnows, etc.
- WHITE BASS - The season begins late February thru mid-April. The best bait will be road runners, rooster tails, jigs, minnows, etc, and spoons later.
- RAINBOW TROUT - May and June. Consider Little Cleos, corn and worms.
- STRIPERS - Fish numbers low. Try large surface lures on shallow banks.
- WALLEYE - Low native numbers are now augmented by stocking so look for 18" + walleye from the early releases. Use bass baits or large minnows.
